Nor|man «NR muhn», noun, adjective.

1. a person born or living in Normandy in France.
2. a member of the people descended from the Scandinavians who settled in Normandy in the 800's and 900's A.D. and from the French who lived there; Anglo-Norman. They conquered England in 1066.
3. one of the Scandinavian ancestors of these people; Norseman; Northman.
4. = Anglo-French. (Cf. ↑Anglo-French)

1. of or like the Normans or Normandy.

3. of or having to do with the architecture of Normandy, characterized by simplicity, massiveness, and use of the rounded arch. It is a variety of Romanesque developed there in the 900's and later introduced into England, southern Italy, and Sicily.
